Choosing a mobile home

A mobile home in a park is an attractive option for holidays, short or long-term stays. These static caravans offer flexibility throughout the year without needing a reservation, and the ability to accommodate one or two persons at the spur of the moment, friends, or your entire family. Such a home in a mobile home park can also be surprisingly affordable.

The buyers should first look at their needs, including the time that will be spent in the home, the layout, the size of their family and anticipated visitors.

Mobile home features

These homes have flexible layouts, designs and sizes.

They typically have one to three bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, a kitchen and a dining/living room.

A third bedroom can also be used as a study. Other features can include a master bedroom suite, a full kitchen, separate dining areas, sitting rooms and a third bathroom. More recent homes have sloped roofs.

One should also consider the amenities outside the home, such as patios, decks, car parks, landscaping and garden sheds.

Mobile home park and location

An important decision is choosing the location of the park home.

First, the country and region of the park home and its distance from your primary residence. Check the park’s accessibility by car, airport and/or ferry. The weather and activities in that region should also be investigated.

Next, visit the park home and note its on-site amenities, which may include common areas, swimming pools, restaurants, bars, a convenience shop, activities, entertainment and security. If you don’t speak the language of that country, see if your native language is commonly spoken there.

Note if the surrounding area offers other activities, shopping and entertainment that you would enjoy during your stay. Nearby villages, markets, sporting facilities (e.g. golf, bicycling, equestrian), amusement parks and beaches can add greatly to your visits.

Purchasing a mobile home

The park may have mobile homes / static caravans for sale at its location. Buying a home that is already on site can save transportation costs and delays.

The buyer can often choose whether to buy a new or pre-owned home. A new home has the advantage of having a warranty, new appliances and the latest styles and technology. A pre-owned home can be a very cost-effective choice. If it is sited, the buyer can also save on the costs of installation and outside amenities (landscaping, patio, decks, etc.).

Appearance is a good first indicator in buying a used home. If the home is neat and tidy the previous owner is likely to have cared for and maintained the property.

A properly maintained mobile home can last for many years. The maintenance (e.g., winterizing, roof) is minimal and easily performed by experienced staff.

Les Prairies du LaC is a park home located in Apremont in the Vendee Region of France. Vendee can easily be reached by automobile and air from most parts of Europe. Ferries and the Eurotunnel provide passage between the UK and France.

Vendee is one of the sunniest places in France. The region includes oceanside villages, open shopping markets, and Puy du Fou, which is the largest amusement park in Europe. Vendee also hosts the Vendee Globe international sailing race.

Apremont is a quaint village with small shops, restaurants, and a beautiful 16th century castle. Other nearby activities include hiking, biking, an 18-hole golf course, horseback riding, and local cultural events.
